Curtea de Arges

Located in the heart of Arges County, in the historical region of Muntenia, Curtea de Arges shines as a place filled with history and national pride. It was the first capital of Wallachia and can truly be called the cradle where the medieval state of Valahia was born. It is closely tied to a series of historical events and legends, the most famous being the legendary tale of Master Manole.

In 1886, Curtea de Argeș became a ‘Royal Town’ when King Carol I designated the Curtea de Argeș Monastery as the royal necropolis. This historic act brought another level of prestige and significance to this historic town.
