Vidraru Lake Tour by bike

We challenge you to a one-day adventure on Transfăgărășan, this time by bike. If you want to enjoy a beautiful landscape, fresh air and exercise at the same time, we recommend a tour around Vidraru Lake.

From Poiana Mucenicului, you have to climb approximately 3.5 km to Vidraru Dam on a winding road through the slopes. From here, the road continues on the left side of the lake, on the forest road that goes all the way to Cumpăna Chalet over a distance of 14 km. As soon as you pass the dam and the tunnel that makes the passage to the left side of the lake, an easy climb of about 500 meters awaits you, then the route is relatively straight with slight ups and downs. All this way you will have the slope on your left and the lake on your right.

Depending on your physical condition, the distance from the dam to the chalet can be covered in approximately an hour and a half. From here, you have another 6 kilometers until you reach the asphalt road. The crossing between the two roads is made on a bridge located at the “tail” of the lake. From this point you have the possibility to climb towards Bâlea, over a distance of 27 kilometers, a climb on serpentines and with a rather large difference in level. Or you can go down directly to the dam, completing the Vidraru Lake tour. You have 30 kilometers to go on the asphalt, on the Transfăgărășan, downhill road.
