Vidraru Lake and Dam
Along the famous Transfăgărășan, approximately 40 kilometers from Curtea de Argeș, in a spectacular setting between Pleașa and Vidraru slopes, you’ll find Vidraru Lake and Dam. This complex, built between 1960 and 1966, was initially designed for the production of electricity, irrigation and flood prevention. Today, it is recognized as a place with multiple opportunities for recreation, tourism, and sports activities.
Vidraru Dam, in particular, is considered a masterpiece of engineering. Built in a relatively short time, between 1961 and 1966, this technological monument was achieved with significant human sacrifices, with approximately 80 people losing their lives in the construction process.

In addition to all these impressive technical aspects, near Vidraru Dam, you can find the Statue of Prometheus, also known as the Monument of Electricity or the Iron Man. This impressive bronze statue, standing 10 meters tall, depicts the titan Prometheus holding a lightning bolt in his hand, symbolizing electricity. This monument is situated on a concrete platform on Pleașa Mountain, adding a fascinating element to the marvelous landscape in this area.
